Ok, their is an popular opinion (at least on tec blogs from people who like apples smooth dick) out there that gaming consoles are doomed after this next gen. The people who write these articles are not into tec at all No, the end to consoles is not happening. One that implies very small thin and underpowered devices like tablets and cellphones are going to exclusively be the game systems. This is the order of things, 1st supercomputer spec= warehouse sized. 2nd formerly supercomputer spec= office sized grid for work. 3rd formally office only equipment now in home PC. 4th formally PC only is now cheap, and small enough for home console's. 5th formally console tec is now small and efficient enough to be powered by cheap battery's, and be razor thin. Consoles will never die, because they are the middle of the road for a particular spec. You don't make new more powerful tec razor thin, you have to make it big and inefficient to begin with. It has to be by laws of physics.

what about wii u? it's arguably a dx11 capable system, but before it's release a nexus 10 has the same gb/s for dram "Key APIs supported include OpenGL� ES 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0, DirectX� 11 and OpenCL� 1.1." That's how far behind consoles have become, they let a dam tablet get dx11 before they did. This thing has more ram and a comparable gpgpu to the just released wii u not to mention a better cpu than is in the 360. The tablets have the ability to take over, not because they are smaller cheaper tec, but because they are smaller cheaper tec wired together to form more than their parts suggest. The new I pad has 4 gpu's that all frankly would suck by themselves, but running together they form one gpu that's quite powerful. I don't think they will completely take over, but they certainly will if consoles don't adapt to their thinking, and that is one cpu and one gpu does not cut it anymore, even if it's big and powerful. Dual or more gpu is the only way they will survive.
the pathetic Mobil cpu you call better than 360 is only a two core 1.7ghz and has no hyper threading. Apples so called 4core gpu dx11 equivalent monster the best tablet gpu by a mile is a woeful 76.8gigaflop's wii u which is panned as an underwhelming disaster as far as consoles go is a gargantuan 660giggaflops of power. And that's a 3 year old pc card that was not even close to top of the line 3 years ago. A week wii u is 8.5x the power of a ipad4 gpu.
Ipad4's gpu aren't even 80 gigga flops!? What a fucking ripoff! 950 dollars for xbox1 power? They aren't really that much more easy to carry then today's mid range laptops. Which have gpu's with 400-500gflops for 700-850 so less money and way better tec. By the time tablets catch up these will be 300 dollar laptops.
No, the gpu you say is a comparable gpgpu to wii u runs at less than 80 GFLOPS, making it weaker than an xbox1. No dx11 does not magically make it better it's so far behind consoles it's not even funny. They can't contain raw power, because they are powered by battery's after all. Unless we want games powered by less raw power than a decade ago at all times we would be wise to support pc's or Consoles for gaming. nexus 10 is so expensive yet it's raw gpu power is comparable to 2000.
Maybe my tech lingo is bad but a gpu is the graphics proccessor, In all reality the gpus in consoles still out do anything other then a computer, However the processors in phones are way better. But games arent using processor power anymore its all about the gpu now

The new Sony and Microsoft systems are rumored to both use 4core with 4xhyperthreading meaning 16 logical cores running at high 3.2ghz speeds with massive 4MB Cache, they will kill any phone processors with this. Yes 3.2ghz is the same speed as xbox360 but that had only 2xthreading with 128kb Cache. Plus the next playstation has a gpu in it's cpu, along with a 2nd standalone gpu. No Ipads, and phones will be the ones playing catchup, next year for sure.

The tablets are new tec, nexus 10 runs nearly 2000k restitution videos. Now it may have less power than an xbox1 but it has newer tec than a wii u. Consoles do need to evolve towards the tec used in tablets, it's bleeding edge stuff. dx11 2000k res using less than 8x the power of a wii u. multi gpus are the future, imagine two amd's running together independently? It won't matter that they have only a terraflop or less.

Consoles conisdered next gen already are being out classed by 10x speeds now, that means even if xbox720 and ps4 even have 2tb or slightly more, which would be amazing in a console, and be at least a decade or so ahead of tablets, but even then at best they will be outclassed hz wise by 5x that of the best gpu now in PC's sure it's a $3,500 gpu, it's also 5.1tb so new systems good as they will sure be will at best be 3x worse than the most extreme card, but you still could do it if you have money and a house to burn (pluss no pc company's will build you a game that will take advantage of your card for a long time, making a 5.1tb card worthless for a while anyway). Now to answer these pc and consoles will bow to the tablets, no fucking way! They will never and I really mean this NEVER get 5ghz or 5.1 fucking tb on a gpu and be able to fit it reasonably in a tablet or phone, within 25-30 years.
The only reason consoles won't be around in a generation or two is if there is another industry crash like in the early 80s. This would be caused by people just getting sick and tired of endless sequels which are just the same thing over and over again and games getting smaller and smaller has more and more overpriced downloadable content gets pushed out. Not to mention if those rumors about used games not working on the next Sony and MS consoles are true.
Thing is if the console games market crashes then there will be no more PC games either. PC gamers tend to be fucking morons that live in their own bubble and don't know shit about the industry. Its kind of irrelevant how much better the graphics are on the PC when the games suck or are just poorly done ports. There would be no PC gaming market today if it wasn't for the success of consoles in the first place.

No, it's not. It's 280 gigaflops. It's on par with a xbox360 gpu from 2005. wii u is at least 400- 500 gigaflops. But their is one cool thing about it: surface pro shows that hd4000 a real pc gup can work in tablet form. Tho at this time it's 7 years behind the times, while costing $900
