Ubuntu 11.10

Oh my fucking GOD this thing is a mess. No "classic" desktop?! Can not create application launchers? No System Tray? Can't change the size of my mouse cursor? Can't edit themes? Unfucking believably huge fucking toolbar on the left side (almost unconfigurable). This thing is like a Toys-R-Us version of Linux! Why the FUCK can't I edit settings anymore?!

Did Microsoft pay Canonical to create this disaster?

Not sure what you have done or are looking for; however, you can

sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback

reboot and choose gnome classic as your choice logon

Hope it helps.

Yep, did this after scouring the forums on how to repair this god awful thing. It's much... MUCH better than Unity but it's not perfect. It is workable.

Unfortunately, I checked out Gnome 3 and see that, soon, Unity is where shit will end up. Sad.

You meant "pseudo" right? Unless you really WERE paraphrasing Phil Collins.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present you the result of today's wonderful educational system.

Oh my God... this is a joke.... right?

In case it's not: "sudo" is a command line directive in Linux that allows you to run a program as "root" (super user or, on Windows, any user).

It's pretty obvious where Ubuntu is going.

Hehe, I saw this coming and defected to Debian after 10.10. I'd never used it before, but it's awesome, it's like Ubuntu but without all this Fisher-Price bullshit. Ubuntu had a good run, but it's time to jump ship imo.

I always saw Mint as Ubuntu with a new layer. I may give it a try after this thing is finished with its jump over that shark.

I recommend Windows 3.1. It's virus-proof and very fast.

Get VMWaare, virtual PC or even virtual box and try a few different flavors, see which one suits you and run with it.

You need to burn them to a CD/DVD or install on a USB first, then boot them. With virtual emulation you can install another system within your system.

give up on linux. it's not a professional OS. It can fix things the you like. But in the end, it's too hard to maintain clean.

Lubuntu (Light Ubuntu) is awesome if you lake the technical skills to get Debian working. Hell, use Lubuntu instead of Debian... who the fuck needs to take 2 days getting all their drivers working.
